Faith
As an entrepreneur faith is vital. The concept of faith simply defines it as "believing without proof". Faith gives birth to "I can" or "It’s possible”.
As humans, we exhibit different levels of faith. In the religious setting, the concept of faith is the belief in a Supreme Being. In the secular settings, faith exhibits itself in the belief in someone or something. For an entrepreneur to sail to success in 2016, the entrepreneur must exhibit some level of faith; faith in God, faith in self and faith in he's or her dreams or ideas.
There are laws and principles that guide us as humans and these laws and principles are set in place by a supreme power, just like the government sets laws and policies for it’s citizens to follow. We need to have faith in ourselves that we are unique in our own way and we each carry a gift that can create change.
For a business owner, this is a critical principle because you need to trust your ability (skills or qualities). Don't live life by the approval or disapproval of others rather be guarded by your belief that though your dreams seem larger than life, life will never give you problems without solutions. Trust in your ideas/businesses enough to convince your potential clients, investors and workers as the need arises. Learn to break limits by activating your intuition.
Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will. – Zig Ziglar
Improvise, adapt and overcome
I first heard these words in a movie titled “Undisputed III”. It talks about the ability to use the resource at your disposal to achieve your set goals or targets.
To be able to manoeuvre the economic harshness that many nations within Africa are facing at the moment, it is imperative for any business owner to understand the concept of “improvise, adapt and overcome”. The 2016 economic down turn is as a result of falling oil prices, and its potential threat to many businesses demand that entrepreneurs adhere to these words to ensure a safety net for their businesses. The concept of improvise as initially stated is to use resources at ones disposal to achieve set goals and targets, adapt to the temporary change brought about by the factors and thus overcome obstacles.
Race yourself
Although competition abounds in the business environment, every entrepreneur will have to run based on personal capacity by raising the barrier, pushing, personally inspiring themselves and going all out to surpass previous results. Entrepreneurs learn the ability to keep the vision alive, through setting targets and working towards every goal by staying focused.
Set Goals
This is the only way to evaluate and assess the success of every quarter or milestone in the year, against the agreed goals and targets set at the beginning of the year.
Tenacity
Tenacity talks about being resilient in the face of rejection, doubt, failure, defeat, or any obstacle that tend to make us give up. It is having a “never stop until you get the desired result, keep at it until you see the end, press on until you reach the mark” kind of spirit.
An Entrepreneur would need to exhibit a great level of tenacity when faced with several challenges as a result of the down turn of the economy and how it affects our business and daily lives.
I have taken more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games.
Twenty six times I have been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed.
I have failed over and over again in my life; and that is why I succeed.
– Michael Jordan
The ability to never ever quit or give up is something that is very, very important
for success as an entrepreneur.-Donald Trump
